Ahoy! My name's Dickie Bush and I'm one of the Captains of Ship 30 for 30.
I started writing online in January of 20—and doing so is by far the best decision I've ever made.
I came into 2020 feeling stuck. I was on the path of self-improvement—reading, learning, and listening to everything I could find from people like Tim Ferriss, James Clear, and Shane Parrish.
But to be honest, this felt way more productive than it actually was. There was no forcing function for me to put what I was learning into practice. I would take detailed notes and make grand plans, only for them to sit forever in the back of my Notion notebook.
That was until Khe Hy said something that changed my life: "Write a newsletter every week for 52 weeks and watch it change your life. Simply share what it is you're reading and learning. Worst case, you'll understand it better. Best case, you'll attract a group of like-minded people and accelerate your career trajectory."
Big claims!
And so I accepted the challenge. But I was terrified to write on the internet. I thought everyone I knew would laugh at me. I thought I had nothing valuable to say. And I thought everything I put out would have to be perfect.
But I overcame my fear, took the plunge, and hit publish on that first newsletter on January 3rd, 2020.
And I kept at it, every week for 36 weeks until August of 2020. That's when I hit the creative wall and started to question everything I was doing.
How did I burst through it?
That's in the next transition email.
